ACTIVITIES
Red Cross Blood Drive
FCCLA is sponsoring another blood drive on Monday, March 30th, from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Call the high school office at 712-829-2162 to reserve a time or make an appointment online.
The American Red Cross needs your help to fuel the blood supply! Every blood donation at your upcoming blood drive is desperately needed so patients can survive. To help ensure your schedule is full, I have a great surprise! As a special ‘thank you’ to your donors for their time and blood donation, they’ll automatically be entered to win a trip for four to the 104th Running of the Indianapolis 500® presented by Gainbridge. *
Package includes four reserved seat grandstand tickets to the Indianapolis 500® Mile Race, four Garage & Pit Credentials and passes to attend a meet and greet opportunity with driver(s), round-trip airfare, three-night hotel accommodations (May 22-25), plus a $500 gift card for expenses. *
Safety First
At each blood drive, Red Cross employees follow thorough safety protocols including wearing gloves and personal protective gear, wiping down donor-touched areas after every collection, using sterile collection sets for every donation, and arm scrubbing. These mitigation measures will help ensure blood recipient safety, as well as staff and donor safety in reducing contact with those who may potentially have this respiratory infection.
In addition, please note that there are no data or evidence to show that this coronavirus can be transmissible by blood transfusion, and there have been no reported cases of transmissions for any respiratory virus including this coronavirus Nonetheless, the Red Cross has implemented new blood donation deferrals out of an abundance of caution, asking individuals to postpone their donation for 28 days if they meet certain risk criteria.
March Mayhem 2020

Elementary Musical
Tiger Shark wants some friends but naturally all the fish in the ocean are afraid of him. Sharks have three thousand teeth, remember?! He embarks on a journey to learn about the world and why fish don’t want to be friends with a shark. Along the way, he meets some quirky friends that also don’t quite fit along with the
crowd. Together they visit the Great White Shark to find the answers to the questions they seek. Come see the Stanton K-3rd grade students perform the musical “Go Fish!” and follow Tiger Shark’s
journey on March 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the school gym. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
All is well for Sir Hector and the Knights of The Round Table until Sir Hector’s sire, Arthur, finds a colorful and enticing object protruding from a stone in the middle of town square. According to legend, whomever can pull the sword out of the stone is the rightful heir to the throne. Arthur, on the other hand, is not intrigued by the sword, instead he pulls out the colorful object stuck in the stone and becomes king. His first decree is that all men put down their swords and live in a land filled with peace and harmony. Rumor has it that there is an attack coming from France. Will they be able to continue living in a land filled with peace and harmony? Come see Stanton’s 4th-6th graders perform the musical “Joust: A Mighty Medieval Musical” on March 13th and find out. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. The performance begins after the K-3rd’s 7:00 performance of “Go Fish!”
All K-3rd grade students should not leave with their parents until after the 4th-6th grade's performance. At the conclusion of the 4th-6th grade's performance, parents may come find their students. This will help eliminate the commotions and distractions during and in between the performances to allow our students to perform their very best. Thank you in advance for your understanding!

SCHOOL NURSE
Dear Parent/Guardian:
We understand that the Novel Coronavirus, now known as COVID-19, is causing much anxiety in our community, state and the world. Stanton Community School District is working closely with Montgomery County Public Health and the Iowa Dept. of Public Health (IDPH) to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff.
What is Known
- The virus causing COVID-19 is a new coronavirus that has not been previously identified, and causes a respiratory illness ranging from a mild cold-like illness to severe respiratory disease.
- Similar to influenza, the people who are most likely to have severe disease and complications from COVID-19 are believed to be the very old, very young and those with other chronic or underlying medical conditions.
- There is no vaccine or treatment currently available for COVID-19, so prevention is very important.
How The Virus Spreads
- COVID-19 is believed to spread primarily the same way the common cold or flu spreads—through respiratory droplets that are produced when someone coughs or sneezes.
- People who are most at risk of becoming infected with COVID-19 are those who have been in close contact (within about 6 feet) with someone who has the disease.
- People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).
What You Can Do Now
- Keep children home when they are sick.
- Students (and parents/guardians) who are ill, especially with acute respiratory symptoms (not allergies or chronic conditions), should stay home.
- Teach your children to always cover their cough and sneezes with a tissue or elbow.
- Remind them to wash their hands with soap and water (or use hand sanitizer) after they touch their face, use the restroom and before they eat.
- Tell children to avoid touching their mouth and nose since that is how germs get into the body.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces and objects (everyday household disinfectants are fine).
- Enhance cleaning of high touch surfaces like doorknobs, toilet handles and sink handles.
- Plan for when community spread occurs.
- Ensure you have a plan to designate a caregiver, such as a family member or neighbor, for a sick child(ren) if you can’t stay home.
- Know your child’s school plan to communicate with you when needed, such as robocalls, email or checking their website.
