Calendar Changes
Last Day of School
The last day of school will be Friday, May 31st, with an early dismissal at 1:05/1:15 PM.
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
Elementary Talent Show
There will be a Talent Show open to the public on Thursday, May 30th, from 8:45 AM-10:00 AM in the high school gym. Students in grades 3rd-5th grade who want to show off their talent, will be doing so at this time.
Stanton Elementary Trash Bag Fundraiser
All Stanton Elementary students are taking orders for the trash bags that we have available at the Elementary Office. These bags are twice as thick as Hefty bags and are available in 3 sizes:
Blue 55 gallon super-size 16 bags per roll
Yellow 39 gallon size 25 bags per roll
White 15 gallon size (kitchen size) 65 bags per roll
The cost of each roll is $10.00 and is due at the time the order is placed with an elementary student. Checks should be made payable to Stanton School. All profits from the sales will be used to purchase
classroom and technology materials. Please call the elementary office at 829-2171 with any questions or to place an order! Thank you for your support!
ATHLETICS
State Track Meet
Congratulations to Tara Peterson who represented Stanton High School at the 2019 State Track Meet. Tara competed in the 400 meters, finishing in 10th place, with a time of 61.43 seconds. She also ran to a 6th place finish in the 400 hurdles with a time of 67.00 seconds. Tara’s times in both events were her personal bests and broke her own school records. Good job, Tara!
Junior High Girls Track
The junior high girls track team finished their season at the Corner Conference JH meet on Monday, May 13th, in Griswold. In the field events, Leah Sandin placed 3rd in the high jump, Marleigh Johnson placed 3rd in the long jump and Jenna Stephens placed 4th in the shot put and 6th in the discus event. The Shuttle hurdle relay (Marleigh Johnson, Brooklyn Silva, Elly McDonald, Leah Sandin ) placed 1st with their best time of the season 1:17.86. The Sprint Medley team of Leah Sandin, Elly McDonald, Addison Olson and Carli Smith earned a 2nd place finish. The 4 x 100 team (Leah Sandin, Elly McDonald, Brooklyn Silva, Marleigh Johnson) placed 3rd with a time of 60.63.
Running to a 4th place finish (and best time of season) in the 4 x 200 were Brooklyn Silva, Elly McDonald, Emily Adams and Carli Smith. In the 100m hurdles, Marleigh Johnson placed 2nd with her best time of the season, 18.48. Addison Olson raced to a 2nd place overall finish in the 400m with a time of 1:09.8. In the 1500m run, Carly Roberts ran to a 3rd place overall finish with her best time of the season (6:03.62).
The team improved each and every day and their final results were due to their hard work, drive and effort. Thank you to everyone who supported the team this season! A special thank you to Mr. Hicks, Mr. Grebin and Mr. Lord for all they did to prepare the field and the track for our track meet earlier in the season.

Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship - June 15
To be considered for the Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship Program, applicants must:
* Have completed high school or plan to complete high school
* Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States
*Demonstrate critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)
*Demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adversity
*Be involved in community service activities
*Be 30 years old or younger
*Be a United States citizen

Stanton Public Library Summer Reading Program
The 2019 Summer Reading Program, “A Universe of Stories, is open to preschool age through adults, with prize drawings and more. You may register for the reading program any time after the last day of school at the library or go online to www.stanton.lib.ia.us and click the summer reading tab and then register online link. The summer reading program begins June 3rd and runs until July 19th. Story Time will be Tuesday from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM beginning June 4th. A Constellations program will be offered June 27th at 1:00 PM. For more information, call the library at 712-829-2290 or visit the website www.stanton.lib.ia.us.
Svensak Skolan
The Stanton Historical Society is sponsoring Swedish School for children ages 7 - 12 on June 10th -14th from 9:00 AM-noon. The curriculum includes singing, folk dancing, language, crafts and culture. Students will perform at the Midsummar Celebration, June 15th. Classes will be held at the Swedish Heritage and Cultural Center. Fee for the week is $10.00 Call Yvonne Johnson at 586-4504 to register. Enrollment is limited.
Summer Maintenance Position
Summer maintenance position at Anderson Conservation available. Must be 18 years or older. This position is 40 hours per week but they will work around sumer schedule (for baseball, softball, etc.). Perfect opportunity for a student going into DNR-type career. Contact Deb Karwal at 712-623-4753.
3rd Annual Stanton Golf Scrambler
The 3rd Annual Stanton Golf Scrambler will be held on Saturday, July 27th, with a 9:00 AM registration start time 9:30 AM. This year money raised will be used to help purchase new playground equipment for the Stanton Elementary School and other school projects.
In addition to the golf tournament, we will be raffling off 2 Yeti Tundra 45 coolers with 10 pounds of Wagyu Beef in each. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20, students 6-11th grade will be selling these raffle tickets. The elementary classes are putting together themed baskets and tickets will be available the last week of school, tickets will be a $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. Please make checks payable to Stanton PTSO. If you have any questions or would like to purchase raffle tickets, please contact Lacey Stephens, Dave Snyder, or Leanne Johnson.
