STANTON COMMUNITY SCHOOL BULLETIN JANUARY 11, 2019
Dear Stanton Community School Patrons,
The Stanton Community has suffered two losses in the past week with the passing of Lisa Hammargren and Cassie Williams. We sympathize and support both families through these tough times. Today we are planning to let school out at 12:20/12:30 PM for students and staff to attend the services of Cassie. We feel this is necessary because of the scheduling of bus drivers and ensuring we can get all students home safely.
I apologize for the change in our schedule.
Sincerely,
David Gute
Superintendent

Viqueen Basketball
The VIqueens got back on the winning track Tuesday, December 18th, with a 54-23 victory over visiting Heartland Christian. Without a question, a quick start led to the lopsided win. Hot shooting by Shelby Brockshus and Tara Peterson shooting 5 for 7 and 5 for 6 from the field respectively helped to push the halftime margin to 41-11 in favor of the Queens. "Having four players in double-figure scoring with 46% shooting makes for an outstanding night offensively.” Hope Ogletree led the scoring barrage with 14, Shelby chipped in 11, and Tara and Devin Isaacson added 10 each.
Stanton Girls finish the month of December with a 63-29 victory over South Page and a 5-4 record as they go into the new year. For the second straight game, the Queens put 40 on the scoreboard by halftime. By half the Queens had a commanding 40-14 lead. Kaitlyn Bruce's 6 for 6 shooting stood out as three Viqueen's scored double-figures led by Tara Peterson with 20, Kaitlyn added 13 and Kami Tibben pitched in 12. Shelby Brockshus had an outstanding night on the boards finishing with 11 rebounds along with 7 points. Hope Ogletree's shut down defense also made a big difference. "Hope's job in our box and one attack was to shut down their best scorer, Jessalee Neihart. Hope managed to frustrate her and hold her to 7 points on the night. Although Hope again led us in steals with 6, that effort tends to not show up in the stats."
Viking Basketball
We have started the 2019 year off with 2 wins. Last Friday, we went to Sidney to take on a much improved Cowboy team. Sidney was able to come out the 3rd quarter and take the lead. I liked the way we stepped up and took the lead back and went on to outscore them 34-15 the rest of the way. Tuesday night we visited the Griswold Tigers and were able to finish the 1st quarter well and never looked back to take the 73-26 win.
Junior High Girls Basketball
The Viqueens left before winter break with victories over Fremont-Mills. The full game finished with a score of 41-30. Then the two extra quarters ended with a final of 14-8. On January 3rd, the team was in action with the Hamburg Wildcats. It was a nice win for the team, 33-11. This Tuesday the Viqueens traveled to Clarinda to face the Warriors of Clarinda Lutheran. It was a fast paced game for both teams. The Viqueens finished with a W, 54-40. Yesterday they were back in action with the Knights of Fremont-Mills. We will also be having a game with Lenox on Monday starting at 4:00 PM and that will be in Stanton. Please come out and watch the team! We appreciate the support!
Junior High Boys Basketball
The boys' team continues to show improvement and currently have back to back wins. They also have been working even harder in practice as they aim to remain undefeated in 2019. The team's next game will wrap up their regular season on January 22nd in Essex.
