KITCHEN HELP NEEDED

Stanton Community School has an opening for a Cook’s Helper (Dishwasher). This position is for approximately 15 hours per week. Instructions to make On-Line Payments For Lunch Through JMC

  You are now able to add money to your child’s lunch account through JMC. You can use your credit card or enter in your bank information. Just log into your JMC account just as you would if checking grades. Click on the lunch tab, then JMC On-line deposit. Put in the amount, name and then choose credit or bank tab. Add all information, expiration date, security code, and email. Then push submit.

  Much easier than the Web Store version, which we will no longer be using. Please call 829-2162 if you have any questions and we can walk you through it.

  You will also be able to do the same thing with textbook fees.

 

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Red Cross/FCCLA Blood Drive

  FCCLA is sponsoring a Red Cross Blood Drive on Wednesday, December 5^th, at the Viking Center from 8:00 AM- 2:00 PM. There is   

a very high need for blood donations and because of this there are some extra incentives if you donate: a free t

shirt and an Amazon gift card. Please call the high school office or go online to schedule an appointment. You can also save some time by going online (redcrossblood.org/RapidPass) on the day of the drive to answer questions

Pink Out

FCCLA is sponsoring a Pink Out night on Friday, November 30^th.  We would like everyone to wear pink this day. The evening will start   with a free will donation soup supper of chili,  chicken noodle, and cinnamon roll from 5:00-7:00 PM. Other fundraising activities include "Knock Out Cancer” (old fashioned knock out game) with prizes for the winners during the half time of the varsity girls game, "Pass the Bucket" between the varsity girls and varsity boys games, "Chuck A Duck" towards the end of time between the girls and boys games (prizes awarded), an auction of some goodies during the half time of the boys game and the dance team will perform too. All the money raised will be donated to the Montgomery County Relay for Life.

CC Science Fair Results

  The students had a great time at the Corner Conference Science Fair on Monday, November 19^th, at Fremont-Mills. They enjoyed seeing many different projects and presenting their projects to the judges.

Santa Lucia – Elementary/6^th Grade Students

  This is a reminder that Santa Lucia is Saturday, December 8^th, at 7:00 PM in the high school gymnasium. All students in grades Kindergarten through 6^th grade will be performing their Christmas music for you.

   Ms Schmidt would like the students to be at the gym between 6:45–6:50 PM and SEATED QUIETLY on the stage bleachers on the north end of the stage. The students will know where they are to be seated and are asked that they stay seated once they arrive at the gym.

   The 4^th, 5^th, 6^th graders who are dancing are asked to meet in the weight room by 6:45 PM.  **The 4^th, 5^th, 6^th graders that dance will

have a required additional practice on Saturday morning, December 8^th, at 10:00 AM in the gym. Practice will last

approximately 45 mins. It is important that everyone is present!**

   If you know that your student will not be able to perform on this evening, please call the elementary office at 829-2171. I do expect all students to perform unless I have been notified otherwise. *Extra Santa Lucia clothing items are in the elementary office! Please have your student stop in and see Mrs. Druivenga and she will help them find what they need for their outfit!*

 

ATHLETICS

Viqueen Basketball

  The Stanton Viqueens battled the Bulldogs of Bedford in a season-opening game at Bedford on November 20^th. Bedford won 53-43,

only after a gallant comeback attempt by the Queens. Bedford opened the game with a 13-0 run, Stanton closed the gap in the

second frame at 15-13. Bedford was then able to extend the lead to 30-17 by halftime. During the 2^nd quarter, Stanton had lost the services of Savanna Moffett to injury. Queen's were not in the mood for giving up as the game was very much undecided late in the 4^th quarter with a run to cut the score to 46-43 with a Hope Ogletree free throw. Coach Snyder said,  "We made a nice run late to cut it to 3, then the injury bug hit again with Shelby Brockshus turning an ankle, couple that with three starters fouling out and we just ran out of gas".

Junior High Girls Basketball

  The junior high team has been on the court! We had our season opener with the Bedford Bulldogs. The team won the full game, 48-14. We then played two quarters and worked just as hard, finishing with a score of 18-15. The Viqueens played East Mills at Nishna Valley and came up short in the full game, 26-38. Then we had two quarters with the Wolverines and won 24-4. Monday we were scheduled to play Lenox, but we didn’t play due to the snow day. Friday we take on the Sidney Cowgirls at 4:00 PM in Sidney.

  The team has been focusing on eight core values. These values are taught through the game of basketball, but are more applicable to a person’s life.  Here is core value one: “We are all necessary and equal parts of the whole”.  It is all about the relationships and understanding the dynamics of a relationship. The main three: player to player, coach to player, and person to person. Each student is able to expand and reflect on this core value. The team has also been implementing a mission statement specific to the eight girls on the team.

  We are very grateful for the support of the school and community at home and away games! Go Viqueens!!!

Viqueen Volleyball Post-Season Honors

  Congratulations to Senior Savanna Moffett and Sophomore Tara Peterson who were recently named to the IGCA All-District 1A volleyball team. Congratulations Savanna and Tara-we are all very proud of you!

AXA Achievement Scholarship –December 14 Apply Early   Online

The AXA Achievement^sm Scholarship offers college scholarships of $2,500, $10,000 and $25,000 to high school seniors who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their activities in school, the community or the workplace. Scholarship winners are known as AXA Achievers. They are ethnically and economically diverse, but they share these qualities: ambition and drive; determination to set

and reach goals; respect for self, family and community; ability to succeed in college. The scholarship is sponsored by the AXA Foundation, the philanthropic arm of AXA US.

The 2019 program will be accepting applications from September 1, 2018 until 10,000 applications are submitted or December 14, 2018, whichever comes first. Your application MUST be one of the first 10,000 completed and submitted electronically by the deadline date. Apply early!

The program is administered by Scholarship America, the nation’s largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals.

Christina Hixson Opportunity Award – due December 15

Application procedures:

1. Complete and mail the application for the Hixson Opportunity Award by December 15 at http://www.dso.iastate.edu/hixson/application

2. File FAFSA by December 1 (Iowa State University deadline).

3. Complete the Iowa State University admission process by January 1.

4. Submit a recommendation from a guidance counselor, teacher, or community leader that specifically discusses your qualifications based on the Criteria for Eligibility.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Covenant Church

  The Covenant Church will be holding its annual kids Christmas program December 2^nd at 10:45 AM. That evening there will be a traditional hymn and carol sing at 7:00 PM.  Also note that there is no Bible club Wednesday, November 21^st.

Stanton Announces 150 Years Celebration

  The Stanton Homecoming 2020 Committee has announced plans for celebrating 150 Years in Stanton. The Sesquicentennial Celebration will be Thursday, July 9^th-Sunday, July 12^th, 2020. The theme is “Turning the Page….150 Years and Our Story is Still Unfolding.” If you have a project idea to complete before the weekend celebration or questions and comments, please contact Jenna Ramsey at (712)829-2540.

5^th Quarter

  Food, Friends, and Fun for 7^th-12^th grades meet in the Mamrelund Lutheran Church basement till 10:30 PM after home Friday night
basketball games.

The Grinch

  On Saturday, December 1^st, the Grinch will be at the Viking Center in Stanton from 10:00 AM–Noon. It is free to the public. Bring your own camera and share a seat with Dr. Seuss’ meanest and greenest creation! This event is sponsored by the Stanton Chamber and refreshments will be served by Stanton Strivers 4-H Club.

Legion’s Santa Claus

  Stanton children up to and including second grades are to have a visit from Santa Claus the evening of Saturday, December 15^th. Santa will not have time to leave the city limits, so country children are asked to arrange to be at the home of a friend or relative in town. If the children don’t have a place in town to go, please bring them to the Legion Hall at 7:30 PM where Santa will visit them. Santa’s helpers will be waiting to talk on the telephone (829-2510) to the children on Wednesday, December 12^th and Thursday, December 13^th, from 5:30-7:30 PM. Be sure to tell Santa each child’s name and the home at which they will be on December 15^th. Give this information clearly in order that Santa will not forget anyone.

Santa Lucia Cookies Needed

  Please consider baking your favorite Christmas cookie to share with the community after Santa Lucia. They can be dropped off at the school kitchen the night prior to Santa Lucia.

Santa Lucia Bake Sale

  The Santa Lucia Bake Sale Committee would greatly appreciate community members to donate baked goods to the bake sale. Please bring the items to the school concourse on Saturday, December 8^th, before 6:00 PM.
