SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

Breakfast is for Everyone

  Breakfast is served at school starting at 7:40 AM each morning and runs through 8:10 AM. If your child is a walker or is dropped off, they may arrive at the lunchroom at 7:40 AM to get their day started off right. This time will allow them to get breakfast eaten and arrive to class on time.

Conference Art Fair

  The Conference Art Fair will be held in Essex on March 30^th-April 1^st. Public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 30^th, 6:00-8:00 PM, Sunday, March 31^st, 1:00-3:00 PM, and Monday, April 1^st, 10:00 AM-1:00 PM. Please come out and see what our students have accomplished.

Flood Donations

  Due to recent flooding in Hamburg, IA, Stanton High School students Easton Hultman, Luke Brockshus, and Shelby Brockshus thought this would be a good opportunity for Stanton Schools and the community to come together and donate much-needed items to the Hamburg Community.

  If you would like to contribute here is a list of items that are in high need: Clean up items, paper products, personal hygiene items, non-perishable food items, and cash donations or gift cards. Each class will have a box outside of their homeroom teachers' classroom to put your donations in. Donations will be accepted through Friday, April 5^th. This group of students is NOT taking clothes at this time.

  This is going to be a very difficult time for many Southwest Iowa communities. We think it is very important to reach out a helping hand in any way that we can. Please join Easton, Luke, and Shelby in giving your support to the Hamburg community.

Toy Drive for Flood Victims!
  Stanton Student Council will be partnering with the East Mills Student Council and the Healthy Initiative Grant Group 5210 to collect toys for the kids that were affected by the floods. We will have drop off locations at both the Stanton High School and Stanton Elementary School offices.

  We will be accepting new and gently-used toys and baby items. All items must be clean and in working order. We want to make this an amazing event for these kids that have lost so much!

  Start your spring cleaning early! We need dolls, stuffed animals, books, puzzles, bikes, Legos, games, baby equipment, and so much more! We will be collecting items through Friday, April 5^th.

Yearbook Sales

The 2019 “COLOR Y(OUR) WORLD” yearbook is for sale. The cost of the book is $60. Contact a yearbook staffer to order and pay for your book or call the high school office at 712-829-2162.

  can purchase your book.

March Mayhem 2019

  The 17^th Annual March Mayhem is here!  Below is a complete schedule of activities for the weekend:

  Admission for spectators is $2 with a family limit of $5. We are also accepting donations for those who have been affected by the flooding SW Iowa. Any spectator making a donation will be given free admission for all events. We thank you in advance for your generosity. If you are just looking for a great lunch, we'll have a great tasting selection from smoked brisket and great burgers to sub sandwiches, Casey's pizza and more.

Fortnite Tournament

  This year’s entrepreneurship class will be hosting a Duos Fortnite tournament during this year’s March Mayhem on March 30^th, at 10:00 AM. The cost will be $20 per team of two and registration will be available until 9:30 AM on March 30^th. The winning team will receive their entry fee back and championship t-shirts. To sign up or if you have questions, contact Andrew Hammargren (712-370-8614) or Drake Johnson (712-621-6654).

Junior Class Parent Meeting

  The Junior class parents will be having a meeting to discuss the Prom meal and how parents will be helping with the meal on April 3^rd at 7:00 PM in the high school library. All are invited to attend.

 

ATHLETICS

Athletic Banquet

  The Athletic Banquet will be held in the school gym on Friday, April 12^th, starting at 6:00 PM. This year's meal will be a choice of an Iowa Chop or Fish. Cost of meal for student athletes, cheerleaders, and coaches is free, $8.00 for all others.  

  A signup sheet for everyone attending is located in the High School Office, we need a complete head count for food. Signup sheet is available through Tuesday, April 2^nd.  We look forward to seeing you there and celebrating the achievements of our student athletes.

Junior High Girls Track

  The junior high girls track team has been hard at work preparing for their track and field season. There are thirteen seventh and eighth grade girls participating in track this year. The team is anxious to get outside and on the track as the weather warms up! The first outing for the junior high athletes will be Tuesday, April 9^th, when we host the Stanton Jr. Viqueen/Viking relays. The meet will begin at 4:00 with field events followed by running events. 

 

GUIDANCE

Scholarships

Stephanie (Peterson) and Christopher Stein Scholarship – April 1 - Must be attending Iowa State University. Based on moral

character, attitude, leadership, activities in school, and community service.  Number of scholarships designated annually.  $500   

Ashley and Brooke Maley Memorial Scholarship – April 15 - Amount to be determined yearly. Open to all senior students.  Students may be pursuing any type of post-secondary education.

Sherie Goodemote Wistrom Memorial Scholarships–due April 15

- One $250 music or medical (nursing) related scholarship will be given.  In order to receive the scholarship you must be a graduating senior from Stanton Community High School, you will need to maintain a grade point average of 3.0 and be registered for college the following semester.

Darwin L. “Rosy” Rossander Memorial Scholarship–due April 15

-A scholarship has been established in memory of Darwin L. “Rosy” Rossander, a lifelong Stanton resident and community supporter. Youth, the activities youth were involved in, and the Stanton community were his passion.  He attended almost every Stanton school event and loved supporting the Vikings and Viqueens.  Rosy was a 4-H leader.  He led 4-H shooting sports and enjoyed helping youth improve their skills.  Through his American Legion activities he planned and organized numerous community service events and projects, including the veterans’ memorial that is on Main Street.  The scholarship will be given to a Stanton student with evaluation based on involvement including, but not limited to: athletics, 4-H, choir, and community service activities. 

John F. Hossle 4-H / FFA Scholarship – April 15

-Open to Montgomery county 4-H and FFA members

Mills-Montgomery County Cattlemen’s Association Scholarship - due April 15

-$250 to $500 scholarships

-open to all graduating seniors who are residents of Mills or Montgomery County or of bordering counties if they attend school in Mills or Montgomery County and the majority of their activities are in these counties

-applicants will be evaluated for scholastic achievement, community involvement, and interest in the beef industry.

Reifel-Ellwood Education Fund - due April 15

-open to all high school graduates who are residents of Montgomery County
Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Employee-Sponsored Scholarship - due April 19

-open to any graduating high school senior residing in Montgomery County or any graduating senior residing in southwest Iowa whose parent(s) or grandparent(s) work at the Montgomery County Medical Campus

-amount to be determined each year

-recipient must plan on majoring in a healthcare field

-recipient must have at least a 3.0 grade point average

-must attend an accredited college or university

-Students pursuing C.N.A. certification are also eligible to apply.

Robert D. Blue Scholarship - due May 10 - Online

-The applicant must be an Iowa resident planning to attend an Iowa college/university during the 2019-2020 school year.

-The applicant can be a current high school senior or someone already enrolled in a college/university.

-Select an individual from your community (not a family member) that has demonstrated the responsibilities of being a citizen of a community. Write a 500-word essay on what this individual has done for his/her community.

-Each applicant is "graded" upon their high school GPA, financial need, references, and their essay.

Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship - June 15

To be considered for the Horatio Alger Career & Technical Scholarship Program, applicants must:

* Have completed high school or plan to complete high school

* Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a career or technical   program at an accredited non-profit post-secondary institution in the United States

*Demonstrate critical financial need (must be eligible to receive the Federal Pell grant as determined by completion of the FAFSA)

*Demonstrate perseverance in overcoming adversity
