Notification of Student Absences

Parents must call the high school office (829-2162) or elementary office (829-2171) to report any student absences or to notify the office if a student needs to leave early or arrive late due to an appointment. It is the parent’s responsibility to notify the school in a timely manner. All student absences with no notification are unexcused absences on the student’s attendance record.  Parents can also email Mrs. Elwood at celwood@stantonschools.com or Mrs. Boyer at tboyer@stantonschools.com in the high school office or Mrs. Druivenga at jdruivenga@stantonschools.com in the elementary office to report the above.

Yearbook Sales

The 2019 “COLOR Y(OUR) WORLD” yearbook went on sale January 25^th. The cost of the book is $60. Contact a yearbook staffer to order and pay for your book or call the high school office at 712-829-2162.

  You may also purchase your yearbook online with a credit card. To order online, go to www.stantonschools.com and click on the picture that you see to the left. That will take you to shopjostens.com where you can purchase your book. This link went into effect starting January 25^th.

  You can personalize your yearbook as follows:

               Icons (up to 4) for $3.50

               One line of personalization for $6.00

  Regardless of which method you use to order, the book has lots of colorful moments that the staff has worked very hard on so don’t miss out on a great “COLOR Y(OUR) WORLD” book about Stanton High School.

Driver's Education
  Stanton will be starting a Driver's Education class sometime mid-February. Please talk with your student if they are of age 14 or older and have their permit or will be obtaining it before the 1^st day of class, they are eligible. If this works for you, have them sign up in the office or give us a call in the high school office at 829-2162. Fees are $315 for in district students and $370 for out of district students.

Red Cross Blood Drive

  The next Red Cross Blood Drive, sponsored by FCCLA, will be held on Friday, March 15^th, from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM. Please put that on your calendar and help our students with scholarship money. Every day, hospitals provide lifesaving blood to patients in need.

 

ATHLETICS

Clarinda Academy Food Drive

  Please support the Clarinda AcademyFood Drive tonight at the basketball game with Stanton. Bring 3 canned goods and receive $2.00 off your admission.

Junior High Boys Basketball

  The JH team finished their season in fine fashion last Friday as they defeated Essex to remain unbeaten in 2019. The coaching staff was very proud and happy with the progress the team has shown since

November. The team developed good chemistry and gave great effort towards individual and team improvements. Congratulations players and coaches! Also, a deserving, "Thank you for your support!" to their parents.

Junior High Girls Track

  The junior high girls track team will begin practice on Monday, February 25^th. The week of February 25^th and the week of March 4^th, the team will conclude practice at school dismissal time daily (3:23 PM). Beginning Monday, March 11^th, the team will practice 8^th hour and after school until 4:15 PM daily. The first track meet for the team is scheduled for Tuesday, April 9^th, as we host our Jr. Viking and Viking relays at home. Meet schedules will be sent home with the girls the first week of practice.

Scholarships

Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarship - February 8 On-Line

Qualified students are eligible to apply every year.

You are eligible for consideration if:

-Applicant must be a high school senior working for Hy-Vee or subsidiary who began employment on or before September 15, 2018 or a high school senior son and/or daughter of a full-, regular-, or part-time Hy-Vee or subsidiary employee who has a minimum of six months employment as of September 15, 2018, AND

-Applicant must be enrolling in college for the first time.

You will need to submit by February 8 of the current year:

-Completed application form.

-Personal statement describing a time when Hy-Vee made a difference in your life and/or the life of your customer(s). Minimum of 300 words, maximum of 500 words.

-Resume listing accomplishments in academics, activities, arts and athletics, community service and future post-secondary plans.

-Official transcript, which should include present student status (for example, junior second semester), last semester’s GPA and cumulative GPA.

-Test results from the ACT (American College Testing) examination.

-A letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor or administrator. Although this is not a mandatory submission, it provides the judges with a more complete portrait of the applicant.

-Based on academic achievement and leadership

Conservation District of Iowa and Montgomery Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarships

-due Feb 16

-presented to high school seniors pursuing programs in any field of agriculture or natural resources

-local scholarship of up to $1,000

-Winners will be asked to volunteer 4 to 8 hours working in the NRCS office in Red Oak, giving students a better understanding of conservation work done through this organization.

-three state level scholarships of $1,800, $1,200, and $1,000, and $300 for each of the six regional winners

-criteria consideration will be points: 60 points for leadership (leadership includes service, character, and self-motivation – 20 points each); and 40 points for scholastic achievement.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Benefit Spaghetti Supper

  A Benefit Spaghetti Supper will be held on February 2^nd, at the Viking Center, 4:00 PM-8:00 PM. Meal will be spaghetti, breadstick, salad, drink, and dessert. Event is hosted by the Stanton Class of 2014 and Class of 2016. There will be a fundraising bake sale during the supper. Cost is a free will donation. All proceeds will go to the memorial funds of Lisa Hammargren and Cassie Williams. Stanton Strong Bracelets

  Stanton Strong Bracelets are available in the high school and elementary offices. The cost of each of the white and purple rubber bracelets is $5.00. The bracelets are imprinted with “Stanton Strong”. Proceeds from the bracelets will go to the Hammargren and Williams families. The bracelets will also be available for purchase at the Lisa Hammargren and Cassie Williams Benefit Spaghetti Supper on February 2^nd. If interested in purchasing bracelets, please send the money with your student to the high school or elementary office.
