FEBRUARY 20, 2019, REGULAR BOARD MEETING MINUTES

The Stanton School District Board of Directors met at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, February 20, 2019, in the Board Room for a regular session. President Brian Bates called the meeting to order with Directors Travis Taylor, Amy Tibben, Tom Weis and Paul Vanderholm present. Additional attendees were Superintendent David Gute, Business Office Clerk Shirley Maxwell, and Board Secretary Tammy Boyer.

 

APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Director Weis made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Director Tibben. The motion carried unanimously.

 

CONSENT AGENDA

Director Weis made a motion to approve the consent agenda of past minutes, reports, and bills with a second by Director Taylor. The motion carried unanimously.

 

K-12 Principal Kevin Blunt arrived at 5:53 PM.

 

SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE

Superintendent Gute reported that the governor signed the bill for 2.06% State Supplemental Aid. The legislators have not acted on SAVE. The  Board Personnel Committee and the SEA postponed their negotiations meeting for earlier today due to weather. A Superintendent evaluation form was given to the board members. A rough draft of the calendar for next school year was shared with the board. There is a Department of Education staff member here this week for a nutrition site visit. Business Office Clerk Maxwell and he attended a Budget Meeting in Des Moines this week and have another meeting tomorrow for the budget.

 

PRINCIPAL UPDATE

Principal Blunt reported that the PTSO has a meeting February 21st. The Booster Club gave the boys basketball team t-shirts for being the Conference Champions. The boys basketball team ended the year 21-2 and the girls team ended 11-11. Congratulations to Donnie Weis for going over 1,000 points. The track teams will start practice soon. We have 2 Quiz Bowl teams that are participating in the 103B Radio station contest. Stanton will also host the Conference Quiz Bowl on March 6th.  The music department has the Parade of Bands Concert on February 26th, Elementary Musical on March 8th, Conference Band Festival in Stanton on March 12th, and the Pops Concert on March 19th. Conference Speech will be held on February 21st at South Page and District Individual Speech Contest will be February 23rd in Shenandoah. Allie Sandin and Ashley Henneman are a part of the FFA Conduct of Meeting Team that participated in the Sub-District Contest at Bedford and have qualified for District Contest on March 2nd at Glenwood. Both Ashley and Allie took the Greenhand Test at Sub-District and received golds. National FFA Week is this week and the FFA Members presented flowers to the staff.

 

GOOD NEWS

Congratulations to the Radio Broadcasting Group, Nick Mueller, Mallorie Wookey, Devin Isaacson, Brooklyn Adams, Anika Wenstrand, and Bethany Goodemote, that received an invite to All-State Speech held on February 16th.

 

NEW BUSINESS

2018-2019 SNOW MAKE-UP DAYS/TIME

Director Vanderholm made a motion to approve adding an hour to the school day on Mondays to make-up time for two snow days missed with a second by Director Weis. The motion carried unanimously.

 

2017-2018 AUDIT

Business Office Clerk Maxwell presented the 2017-2018 audit to the board.

 

Director Weis made a motion to approve the 2017-2018 audit with a second by Director Vanderholm. The motion carried unanimously.

 

MONTGOMERY COUNTY CONFERENCE BOARD MEMBER

Director Vanderholm made a motion to approve Director Bates as the Montgomery County Conference Board Member with a second by Director Tibben. The motion carried Unanimoulsy.

 

OPEN ENROLLMENT

Director Taylor made a motion to approve Abigail Maynes for open enrollment from Red Oak to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Tibben.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Director Tibben made a motion to approve Dacota Bolton for open enrollment from Clarinda to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Vanderholm.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Director Vanderholm made a motion to approve Hunter Swartz for open enrollment from Red Oak to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Taylor.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Director Weis made a motion to approve Jaspyr Nielsen for open enrollment from Red Oak to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Tibben.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Director Vanderholm made a motion to approve Kyre Nielsen for open enrollment from Red Oak to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Taylor.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Director Weis made a motion to approve Mazlyn Nielsen for open enrollment from Red Oak to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Tibben.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

Director Tibben made a motion to approve Rozlyn Nielsen for open enrollment from Red Oak to Stanton for the 2019-2020 school year with a second by Director Vanderholm.  The motion carried unanimously.

President Bates adjourned the meeting at 7:12 PM.  The next regular meeting for the board is set for March 20, 2019, at 5:30 PM in the Board Room
