DECEMBER 20, 2017, REGULAR BOARD MEETING
The Stanton School District Board of Directors met at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, December 20, 2017, in the Board Room for a regular session. President Brian Bates called the meeting to order with Directors Travis Taylor, Amy Tibben, Paul Vanderholm, and Tom Weis present. Additional attendees were Superintendent Chris Herrick, Business Manager Shirley Maxwell, and Board Secretary Tammy Boyer.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Director Vanderholm made a motion to approve the agenda with a second by Director Tibben. The motion carried unanimously.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Director Tibben made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 14, 2017, meeting with a second by Director Taylor. The motion carried unanimously.
TRANSPORTATION
Our hearts go out to the Riverside Community School for their loss in the bus incident.
All of Stanton students were a part of a bus evacuation drill that was performed today. Another bus evacuation drill is scheduled for March 6th.
FINANCE REPORTS
Director Vanderholm made a motion to approve the finance reports with a second by Director Taylor. The motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF BILLS
Director Weis made a motion to approve the bills as presented with the exception pending final approval for Drees bill with a second by Director Tibben. The motion carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
FACILITY PROJECT UPDATES
A punch list was performed today and the elevator is operational but there are several cosmetic items that still need to be completed.
VIDEO CAMERA SYSTEM STATUS
The camera system is installed and running.
SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE
LEGISLATIVE SESSION
There are several items the legislators will be considering, the biggest item for Stanton is operational sharing.
EARLY RETIREMENT INCENTIVE PLAN
After discussion no decision was made at this time.
K-12 Principal Kevin Blunt arrived at 6:20 PM.
PRINCIPAL UPDATE
Principal Blunt reported the music concert had a very good crowd. Corner Conference Basketball Tournament will be held January 15-20. The Montgomery County Memorial Hospital will be providing a head trainer at home sporting events at no cost to the school. There are 23 students practicing and getting ready for speech contest to be held in January.
GOOD NEWS
Congratulations to:
Emma Roberts, and the Iowa State Cyclone Honor Band.
Noah Kammerer, Devin Isaacson, Emma Roberts, Addison Olson, Cameron Sallach, and Levi Martin who were selected for the SWIBA Honor Band.
Travis Taylor for the work he did with the Live-Streaming Headquarters.
Thomas Bates for the solid ladder he welded together for the Live-Streaming Headquarters.
The fifth grade who has been working hard to collect and organize items for the local food pantry.
Savanna Moffett who was named as an Honorable Mention choice to the Omaha World Herald All-Western Iowa 1A volleyball team and to the IGCA All-District 1A volleyball team.
Tara Peterson was also recently recognized during the KMAland Senior All-Star game in Glenwood as the Corner Conference Freshman of the Year.
Mr. Jeff Grebin who was named Football Coach Of the Year in District.
Football Players, Drake Johnson, Offensive District Player of the Year, 1st Team Offensive End, 1st Team Defensive Back, 2nd Team special teams returner and Academic All-District; Noah Kammerer, 1st team Offensive Line and Academic All-District; Reece Anderson, 1st team Linebacker, 2nd team Offensive End and Academic All-District; Dillion Rocha, 1st team Defensive line and Honorable Mention Offensive Utility; Cameron Walter, 2nd team Defensive Linebacker; Keygan Day, 2nd team Quarterback; Brett Silva, Honorable Mention Linebacker; Academic All-District, Thomas Bates, Lucas Brockshus, Andrew Hammargren, Easton Hultman, Matt Truka, and Will Roberts.
BOARD GOALS
Director Weis made a motion to approve Stanton Board Goals with the removal of 90% on b and adding d with a second by Director Vanderholm.
2017-18 SCHOOL BOARD GOALS
- Student Achievement
- Stanton students will score above the state average on the ACT.
- Stanton students will be at the proficiency level or higher on Iowa Assessments in Math, Reading, and Science.
- Stanton students will average one year of growth per grade level on the Iowa Assessments in Math, Reading, and Science
- Stanton will develop and implement increased opportunities in STEM education for our students.

SHARED SCHOOL BUSINESS OFFICIAL RESIGNATION
School Business Official Shirley Maxwell has resigned with the date to be determined. The Board thanked Mrs. Maxwell for her service to our school.
NEW BUSINESS
AT-RISK/DROPOUT PREVENTION APPLICATION
Director Weis made a motion to approve the 2018-2019 At Risk Dropout Prevention Application requesting approximately $23,290.00 modified supplemental amount with a second by Director Taylor. The motion carried unanimously.
BOARD POLICY REVIEW
Director Weis made a motion to approve Board Policy 209.6, Review and Revision of Policy, with change of at least once every five years, with a second by Director Taylor. The motion carried unanimously.
ADJOURNMENT
President Bates adjourned the meeting at 7:08 PM. The next regular meeting for the board is set for January 16, at 5:30 PM in the Board Room but will be adjusted if needed due to the conference basketball tournament.
